When we still lived in New Jersey, Pop-Pop would pick me up after daycare and bring me – and a happy meal for each of us (both toys for me) – to the train station. He and I would wave at each passing train, making friends with conductors and passengers alike. One such friend brought me a little conductor outfit complete with a wooden train whistle, the feverish blowing of which became an integral part of our tradition. It remains one of my fondest memories from my childhood, and one that I will always cherish.
